We are a group of friends who share a love for British cars, old and new. We enjoy spending time with one another and sharing our knowledge and car stories.
The West Alabama British Car Club holds monthly meetings at restaurants in the greater-Tuscaloosa area as well as special annual gatherings that include a Spring Fling, Valve Cover Race, and Christmas party.
Many of us attend car shows in Tuscaloosa and Northport, and some club members travel to other car shows and events throughout the United States.
In the early 1990s, several individuals interested in old British cars connected after becoming acquainted at car shows. It wasn't long before we realized that all of us lived in the Tuscaloosa area and had cars we were either working on or actually driving and enjoying.
After a number of social events, as well as attending other club meetings in the surrounding area, Bruce Hill, Doug Kirkley, and Alan Williams began discussing the possibility of establishing a car club. Bruce Hill drafted a list of people he had met who were British car enthusiasts and might be interested in participating.
Notifications were sent out, and the first official meeting of the West Alabama British Car Club was held in January 1996. There was no official count, but approximately 25 people attended. Subsequent quarterly meetings that year were chaired by Bruce Hill to promote participation in tech sessions, car shows, Tuscaloosa City Fest, and parades for Labor Day and Christmas.
In 1997, the club's governing board was elected. Allen Williams was President, Ed West was Vice President, Bruce Hill was Secretary/Treasurer. Members of the Board of Directors were Doug Kirkley, Mike Powell, Grant Snead, and Doss White.
